Put down that organic cupcake and read this before proceeding!
A new study published by the University of Michigan found that people who ate organic snacks labeled as "organic" believed that their snack contained 40% fewer calories than the same snack that had no label. Therefore, the study participants were more likely to overeat.
Unfortunately, the organic choice does not have fewer calories (bummer!) In fact, in most cases, organic food products have double the calories. And, ironically, the study participants overwhelmingly believed that exercise was "less necessary" after eating organic desserts or snacks. Yes, eating organically is a healthy choice, but don't let it skew your thinking. An organic cupcake is just as caloric as a regular cupcake!
So how can you avoid this trap? Take your best guess at your organic goodie's calorie count. Then double it. You'll end up being more accurate, and you'll probably eat a lot less.
